ROTARY SUPPORTS CANCER RESEARCH
Andy Wilson from Yorkshire Cancer Research (YCR) gave a talk to Richmond Rotary Club.
He outlined YCRs history in funding drugs to treat cancer which resulted in global success with Tamoxifen and Lymparza for breast and ovarian cancer. Today the cost of developing new drugs is beyond the organisation’s budget.
So the mission now is “Everyone in Yorkshire will have the best chance of living a long and healthy life with, without and after cancer.” This involves funding prevention awareness activities and supporting screening and clinical trials in the region.
At the end of the evening Richmond Rotary President Emma Fulton thanked Andy for his talk and presented him with a cheque for £500. In doing so she said:
“It is a pleasure to support a world-renowned organisation that is making a difference to so many people’s lives in Yorkshire.”
