Rotary Becket & a Sensory Garden

During the past year the Club undertook to support the development of the Sensory Garden being developed within the grounds of Fernie Fields, Northampton.

Fernie Fields

By using money from a members donation, some Club funds and the money from a 1070 District Matching Grant, a small group of members set out to turn the available money into practical help for the project which was in need of additional specialist planters, (some times called Shrugs) for use by disabled people, particularly those who can only work from a chair.

Enquiries by the group revealed that for the same amount of money they could buy the materials and make 11 of the required structures for the price of 3 purchased ready made.

On the 2nd of September 2021 the last of the structure were completed and have now been handed over to the Sensory Garden Project for use. Not only have the Rotary volunteers shown thrift in constructing the equipment rather than buying it ready made they have also struck a blow toward Rotaries latest area of activity, “supporting the Environment”. Why? The planters have been made from recycled plastics. Strong, durable and weather proof.

Well done the team from Rotary Becket!
