There was a great turn out for this year's Pinner Rotary St George's Celebrations which took place on Sunday 24th April in the High Street
It was good to be back after a two year absence due to covid restrictions, and the positive feedback from the public and stallholders confirmed that everyone was pleased to see this popular event back on the Pinner calendar.
The Scouts Parade with their Promise renewal and presentation of awards is an integral part of any St George's Day celebration and this got the proceedings underway. The High Street was filled with people enjoying the entertainment from Capital Connection, Simply Gray, Merrydowners morris dancers and the ever popular Punch & Judy show which filled Church Green. With food stalls, children's rides and a petting farm there was something for everyone.
And then the Wheelbarrow Race! Always the highlight of the day, the High Street was packed with crowds cheering on the intrepid teams. The race winners, completing the course in record time, went by the unusual name "Curse This Metal Hand". The winners of the Best Dressed Team competition called themselves "Norfolk and Chance".
Our thanks to the Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Ghazanfar Ali, for attending the celebrations and presenting the prizes, impressively dressed in his full regalia.
Funds raised by the event will be donated to charities supported by Pinner Rotary including the Ukraine relief effort. Donations from the public and the commercial stall holders, plus the entry fees from the wheelbarrow racers, have so far raised approximately £1,400.
If you would like to make a donation you can still do so: text PINNERGEORGE to 70450 to donate £5.
Pinner Rotary St George's Celebrations are generously sponsored by Gibbs Gillespie. Our thanks also to the Queens Head for the supply of the all important ale for the wheelbarrow racers.
