RotaKids - Lion King? Not This time!

Buttsbury Junior School super RotaKids fundraising event – an exhibition of Dogged Determination – a series of sponsored relay races to raise money for their chosen charity for 2021-22, Guide Dogs For the Blind

No Spots On The Leopards

As Buttsbury Raise Mone In Race For Their Chosen Charity

Leopards, Panthers, Lions and Jaguars.  A Safari? A Zoo?  Actually just down the road at Buttsbury Junior School as their super RotaKids were in these house groups for their fundraising event – an exhibition of Dogged Determination – a series of sponsored relay races to raise money for their chosen charity for 2021-22, Guide Dogs For the Blind, supported by their leader Miss Katie McCarty.

President Les attended on behalf of the Club in the absence of Youth Chairman, Mike Sinclair, He reports alongside photographic images of the RotaKids attempting the challenge.

Sprint Not A Marathon!

“It was a bright sunny but slightly chilly day – ideal running weather – and the children were clearly enjoying the activity.

“Each year group ran in turn, the children sprinting back and forth across the playground, determined to complete as many relays as possible in the allotted 10 minutes to maximise the money raised from their sponsors.  Also the pupils had the added incentive of running within their school house groups against other houses to win an extra ten minutes of lunch-break.  Healthy competition – no wonder everyone gave one hundred and ten per cent effort. “

All Were Winners

No winners when the results were totted up.  Yes, Leopards earned the extra break-time with 734 relays in total, well ahead of Panthers (680), Lions (661) and Jaguars (652) but all are winners for their determination and devotion to their wonderful cause.

Headteacher Ann Robinson reports “The children enjoyed chasing up and down the playground, competing against each other in their houses, to try and complete the most runs! They also were very proud of their fundraising efforts - £4760 was raised overall – which we were very pleased with. We are looking forward to meeting a representative from the charity next week, and her dog,  Aero”

And what did the pupils think?

Sophia Anderson: “I really enjoyed working as a team with other people in my year group.”
Georgina Brown: “It was a fun run that was for a good cause that will help inspire the children of Buttsbury to donate more money to Guide Dogs UK.”

Georgina Nunney: “I found it an inspiring run and a great way to raise money for such a great cause.”
Max Sawyer: “The sponsored relay race was an enjoyable activity and it was for a great cause!”

Christopher Markham: “It was an enjoyable morning activity for a positive outcome.”

Danni Obery: “The sponsored relay race was a fantastic way to cheer on your fellow house members with an amazing outcome.”

Alex Rowe-Goodey, “The race was very fun and challenging, it was lovely to get out in the fresh air and work as a team!  We were really proud of our achievements!”
