Foundation Dinner

Guest speaker: Sian Joseph, Deputy Director Ceremonials about her role in the organisation of high-profile occasions

Our annual Foundation Dinner saw a great attendance of members and their guests.

Following a very pleasant meal our guest speaker, Sian Joseph, was introduced by Hugh Thomas, Foundation Team Lead. Sian gave a wonderfully insightful, interesting and entertaining talk on her role in the Civil Service where she has taken a major role in organising such prestigious events as the Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph, the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh and HM The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Most recently Sian was responsible for the organisation of the huge queue along the banks of the River Thames as people set off to pay their respects at the lying in state of HM The Queen. Sian was called back to London on the day of the Queen's passing to put into place well prepared plans, though the logistics involved had to be heard to be believed. This included making sure the queue closed at the right time to ensure the last person filed past the Queen's coffin at 6.30 on the morning of the Queen's funeral.

Sian superbly answered a number of questions and was thanked by Sue Cassidy for her insight and time taken to be with us during her business schedule.

Later in the evening a raffle was held and raised £160 towards Rotary's Foundation charity.
