APRIL 26 – VANESSA MILNER’S TALK

The thought of a cluster of Rotarians enthralled in an hour-long talk about the history of ladies’ underwear almost defies belief, but that was the case when Vanessa Milner, of the Scarborough Archaeological and History Society gave a fascinating talk on the subject, complete with an amazing array of actual garments dating back many decades, even centuries in some cases, to add to her presentation and the slide presentation.

We were blessed with an excellent turnout of Inner Wheel members who added to the whole enjoyment of the evening.

Vanessa’s research and enthusiasm was captivating, as she handed round the historic garments – and also showed us the  underwear worn by the men of yester-year.

The words “Passion-killers” came to mind as we marvelled at the array of underwear and gowns ladies found themselves wearing to display their husbands’ wealth and standing in society.

A truly enjoyable evening which was much appreciated by everyone!
