Under the guidance of the Tree Preservation Board a group of volunteers to include a couple from Epsom Rotary, the Epsom Common Allotment Society and other organisations set about to the planting of some 300 whips at the Riding School for the Disabled (RDA). We were shown how to correctly plant larger whips and the smaller ones and worked in pairs. The trees were planted alongside the edge of one of the fields to provide the horses with shelter, to encourage wild life and protect the environment. Despite the very wet weather, much of the task was accomplished. This is one of the many community projects I have always wanted Epsom Rotary to get involved in and despite both Maggie and I and no doubt others being wet through, was so very worthwhile. A large number of the whips were lovingly nurtured on our allotment too and we obviously have room now for others.
