March 2024

On Saturday the 16th March members of the Club and large number of guests enjoyed a night of Traditional Jazz in the Community Centre at Kislingbury

The resulting charitable income was over £2,000, making a very welcome addition to the Club's activities in Malaw

President Martin Thornton formally welcomed Carly to full Rotary Membership at our Business Meeting on 13th March.

Carly has prevously been very active within the Club as a member of the David Williams IFA Corporate Team.

On 20th March inducted tow other Corporat Members into full "Active Membership of the Club.  Jackie Barnaby from DSA Group and Louise Graham from DWIFA.

Rotary Becket's 36th Birthday Celebrations!

The Club Celebrated the 36th Anniversary to the Charter in March 1988 with a presentation to Terry Atkinson.

Rotarians Irene Loftus and Jane Simpson were out delivering a thousand pounds worth to food provided by the Club to Northampton Hope Centre and Weston Favell Centre Food Banks


  



December 2023



Every Year Rotary Becket hold a Special Breakfast at Overstone Park inviting guests and Rotarians from other Clubs to take part in a Joke Competition


We had a great turnout of visitors at our Annual Jokers' Breakfast at Overstone Park - and via Zoom with 15 joke tellers.  Well done to Daniel Slack for the winning joke and 

Steve Uden (2nd on zoom) who as usual told us a great one. In additon to the fun had by all we raised a total of £1,200 for our Charity Activities!

December 2023


It has been another successful year for the Rotary Becket's Santa sleigh tour in the run up to Christmas, which will return for its twentieth year in 2024.

For almost two decades, the team has enabled families to visit Santa who may not be able to otherwise – all while raising money that is donated back into the community to a number of local charities.  You can read the report of Northampton Chronicle & Echo at this LINK


In line with tradition the club held their "End of Sleigh" Party to thank all those who helped out including two fo our younger and most enthusastic supporters!



October 2023 

What a great Quiz Night the Club had  at St Gregory’s Church when the competition was fierce right to the end!

Piping hot fish ‘n Chips was served at half time and the bar was well served. 

Congratulations to the Kisl Crackers who won the Prize (no expense was spared!), Questionmaster, John Saynor and all that made is a successful and enjoyable evening

Rotary Becket were delighted to support Blackthorn Primary School in having a visit from Harold the giraffe and Life Education East Midlands last week when Harold enjoyed looking at the autumnal display as well as helping the pupils to develop their physical & mental wellbeing in their Life Space! 24th October bought World Polio Day when a large group oifx member took the challege to "Walk a Mile for Polio" raising funds for the Polio Plusd Fund to esadicate Polio.  Unsurprisingly the ended up at the pub after raising £150!



September 2023



Three members from the Club again took part in the Annual Ride4Hope event when Ride for Hope Team 23 whenthe incredible bunch of dedicated Cyclists managed to raise a staggering £25,000 for Hope Centre Northampton beating last year's total.




August 2023





Members of Rotary Becket were delighted to be servers at the Bethany Homestead tea party when residents had a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining afternoon!

The residents of the Homestead  certainly appreciated the afternoon tea and a good singalong.  Speaking to a few of the residents, the afternoon bought back wonderful memories.

 

July 2023

Satuday 15th July we held our first Hobby Horse Race at Horton.  There were about 140 people attending for a BBQ and a chance to have a flutter on the "horses" ridden my members family and friends at the throw of a dice.  Avoiding the stormy conditions was the biggest challenge, but the day was a great success and raised over £3,000 towards our Chitippi School Classroom Build Project.   Thanks to all those who supported the event by taking part and sponsoring horses and races. 



June 2023



On Wednesday 14th June Rotarians from the Club with some helpers took a record number of children with special needs.  Rotary take over the park for the day so children can enjoy the rides and activities for free.  A sandwich meal is provided at lunchtime.  A get time was had by all!






On Wednesday 21st June President Graham (as what was probably the last of many of his presentations during the Year 2021-23) was please to present a cheque for £1,670 to Cynthia Spencer Hospice from the funds raised by our Charity Golf Day in May.  More details visit the PAGE




On Thursday 21st President Graham organised his usual Charity Karting Evening at Whilton Mill when a number of teams helped in raising £800 for our charity account and had a lot of fun doing it.

Wednesday 28th June brought our last meeting of the 2022-23 when President Graham Goss handed over the chain of office to President 2023-24 Martin Thornton.  We were delighted to have Assistant Govenor, Dawn Wright, join us who commented on our plans for the coming year.
