June 2023 Football Tournament

We arranged a Primary Schools Football Tournament at Firhill Park, Glasgow

Charing Cross Rotary as per of our involvement in the Active Schools Programme helped arrange a mini-football tournament for Glasgow Primary Schools
  • We had 10 schools’ teams attending, each with 10 children in their teams.
  • We hired the full pitch, which was split into 4 smaller pitches. Each game lasted 7 minutes, where each school played each other once.
  • There were no scores kept, no winners at the end.
  • We provided a constant source of water and energy bars, plus some apples, for all players and participants. All went down well!

What we found encouraging was that there were mixed teams, boys, and girls together and from many different cultural backgrounds.

The schools provided their own coaching staff and Grant Alison (with whom we have a long-standing relationship) a co-ordinator on the Active Schools Programme helped with the referee’s and getting schools participating.

Our last similar event was pre-covid, so it's great to be back.  Whilst we had 10 teams and 100 players taking part, there is room for more, so looking forward to 2024!
