Rotary@Kingsholm has discovered that Gloucester City as only 3 accessible defibrillators. This is the lowest number in the country. A new defibrillator costs about £2200. Our aim during the next 12 months is to raise enough money to double that number.

Vision Statement

Finding an accessible defibrillator close to where it is needed in Gloucester is a challenge.Rotary@Kingsholm aims to support Gloucester City Safe and their partners, by raising funds, to increase the number of publically accessible defibrillators in and around Gloucester

Background

If someone has suddenly collapsed in the street or at home and is unconscious, not breathing or not breathing normally,  the chances are they are in cardiac arrest.

Their heart is not pumping blood to the lungs or the brain  and death can happen in minutes without treatment.  Even if an  ambulance is called straight away, 9 out of 10 people with cardiac arrest  away from a hospital will die.

A procedure known as CPR, involving manual chest  compressions to help keep blood circulating, buys time  and can improve the chance of survival by 2 or 3 times.   We can all learn to give CPR, clicking RevivR will  take you to a British Heart Foundation site  that offers their on-line training

if, in addition, the heart can be restarted using a defibrillator within  a few minutes, the chances of survival are increased even further.

Finding an accessible defibrillator close to where it is needed is  more of a challenge and why Rotary@Kingsholm is supporting  Gloucester City Safe and their partners by raising funds to  increase the number of publicly accessible defibrillators in and  around Gloucester.

In a perfect world, you would always be within  3 minutes of an accessible defibrillator!
