Rotary hosts a Ukrainian Refugee Family

A family holiday.

A Ukrainian refugee family of four, mum Biola Ameri, husband Ivor and their two daughters, aged 10 and 8 have arrived in Guernsey for a short break. For the past sixteen months the family have been hosted by an Alton, Hampshire rotarian who has cared for and supported them throughout this time.

Chris Roberts, Rotary International Team Lead, said “In the first few months of the war, now twelve months ago, Rotary Guernsey spoke to Biola and their Rotarian hosts about the possibility of giving them a break in Guernsey should the war continue and they were to remain homeless”.

Chris continued “this was felt to be very important, not only for the family but also for those who are full time hosting”.

Andy Salisbury, President said “I am so pleased that this wonderful initiative has now come to fruition and the family are now enjoying all that the Islands of Guernsey has to offer. The club’s thanks go to the Rotarians who are hosting the family in their own homes, Rotary Guernesiais, and for the generous warmth and support of so many that have offered to help to ensure that they have the best time with a full itinerary!”
