Rotary and McLaren's bring new piano at Stirling Station

The Rotary Club of Stirling received a piano from a local family and that prompted the idea that a piano at Stirling Station would contribute to give a happy welcome to those using the station.

Mr Burbidge, Area Manager for Express, Stirling & Perth at Scotrail liked the idea and he carried out a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure that the project received committee approval and complied with the rules and regulations applying to railway stations in Scotland.

However, neither he nor Rotary knew how to look after a piano in a station.

Specialist advice  was needed. The Rotary Club contacted McLaren's Pianos (Glasgow) who have a wealth of experience in that field because they sponsor the pianos at Glasgow Queen Street, Glasgow Central Station, Haymarket and Waverley.

McLaren's Pianos (Glasgow) were very keen to help and proposed to sponsor the project.

At that point it was discovered that the piano gifted to the station was not a model that would react well to changes of temperature and humidity. It would be out of tune very quickly.

A stronger piano was sourced by McLaren's when one of their customers generously gifted their piano to Stirling.

McLaren's will take care of the tuning and maintenance service that the piano requires.

The piano arrived on 31st January 2024 and already some members of the public have played tunes and brought music to the station.
