Celebrating 100 years of District 1090 in the Thames Valley at Sindlesham Court, Wokingham RG41 5EA


Rotary in the Thames Valley is 100 years old. We invite our members to come and celebrate with District Govenor Kate and Clubs from all over District 1090.

A fabulous evening of Music, Dancing and Fun. Including a Casino and other entertainment not to mention a superb three course dinner.

The emphasis will be on FUN with the minimum of formality. Black tie and smart frocks preferred but lounge suits are acceptable.

We donated £1000 to the Hope and Homes for Children charity that is active in Ukraine looking for loving homes for children orphaned in the war. We also gave £2,000 to Disasters Emergency Committee and £1300 to the Rotary International appeal

The 2 LVS winners Cora Merriman and Ava Murray with their English teacher. Club President, William Stokes to the right presented the awards and certificates. A presentation to the Junior winner, Anton Travin, was at the Junior School Assembly.

The Young Writer competition for schools is a three stages event, Club level, District, level and National. There are 3 age groups, Junior, Intermediate and Senior.

We support local schools with both funds and equipment. Sometimes we combine with other charities to raise enough to buy more expensive items (e.g. minibuses, or fitting them out and laptop computers)

Every year we entertain the scholars (sponsored by Rotary to complete a Masters degree) for an afternoon at the races and later, at the club dinner, they tell about their homes, studies and future plans -- Amazing young people.

We have partner clubs in Gulpen/Vaals (Netherlands), Ingelheim (Germany) and St Nazaire (France). We have been enjoying exchange visits for many years.

During the last two years we have worked with other Rotary clubs (local and in Germany), to raise money for the new Thames Hospice. This support is on-going as we help develop and pay for the training of nurses and supply of garden furniture.
