RIP Malcolm Murray

A recognition of his contribution to the Rotary Club of Burton upon Trent

Malcolm Murray

TRIBUTE TO MALCOLM MURRAY

Malcolm joined Rotary in 2004 his Classification being MALTING.

Having travelled down from his native Scotland he worked for Bass Brewers for many years.

His Presidential Year of 2008/09 included the social highlights of celebrating the 250th Anniversary of Robbie Burns birth, Burton Accordion Orchestra entertaining at the 73rd Charter and leading a large attendance of Members and Partners to the RIBI Conference in Edinburgh and subsequent holiday break at the Poppies Hotel in Callander.

The Club continued to raise significant sums of money during his year including the ‘Spot the Bails’ competition in connection with the Rotary Cricket Competition.

At the District Handover Lunch the Club received both the District Youth and Environmental Trophies.

Outside of Rotary one of his favourite pastimes was sailing.

Also on this sporting theme Malcolm was a Member of the Clubs ‘Ten Bowling Team’ which, for the first time in the Clubs history, won the District Trophy in 2012.

Further accolades followed as the Club awarded him a Paul Harris Fellowship and later a Honorary Membership.

Malcolm passed to ‘Higher Service’ on 18th February 2024 aged 80 years.

A Thanksgiving Service for his life was held on 20th March 2024 at St. Giles Church, Marston Montgomery to which many Members and Partners attended.
