The 2025 District 1070 Disability Games were held at Ratcliffe College on Sunday 27th April. In contrast to last year’s unseasonably stormy weather resulting in the Archery cancellation, we were blessed with glorious weather. Once again the School gave us tremendous support both in the lead up to and on the day of the Games.
155 Competitors took part across 11 individual sports. 17 different Organisations were represented amongst the competitor teams, from SEND schools up to Special Olympics groups. At least 13 Rotary clubs were involved in supporting attending competitors, drawn from across the District and these included Alford & Mablethorpe, Melton Mowbray, Lincoln, Lincoln Lindum, Ramsey, Spalding, Spilsby, Sleaford, Leicester, Lutterworth, Rutland and Wellingborough, as well as neighbouring Southwell.
The events included archery, table tennis, darts, boccia, kurling, basketball shooting, swimming, weightlifting, wheelchair racing and introduced for 2025, rowing and targetball.
Fifteen Rotary clubs from across Leicester and Leicestershire worked together to run each event and provide other general support.
Tony Parris from RC Blaby sponsored the competitors packed lunches with his catering company providing excellent fayre at their food stall.
Soar Valley Archers provided their archery expertise and Physfit Sileby oversaw the rowing and weight-lifting events. Not least, well over 100 Rotarians and Rotary Friends gave up their time to volunteer on the day to make this event a great success.
Colonel Richard Hurwood, the Vice Lord Lieutenant for Leicestershire paid the Games a visit and added a touch of glamour.
This was Rotary Local at its best providing joy to so many who otherwise have little in life to celebrate. The 2026 Games will once again be held at Ratcliffe College on Sunday April 12th 2026. If you would like to be involved in any way please contact either Richard Power RC Leicester or Chris Trivett RC Leicester De Montfort.
Whilst it has been a great honour to host the Games in Leicestershire over this three year period, it is only fair that other areas within the District get the opportunity to run the Games in 2027/8. If you would like to discuss further then please contact either Richard Power or Chris Trivett.
