We held our October community litter at the amazing Green Patch. We had 16 volunteers in the rain and enjoyed homemade cake and hot drinks afterwards. We also collected a huge bag of cans which has been given to the Helipad Appeal.
Litter Picking
In November we held a community litter pick in a new location. We had 20 volunteers and picked 24 bags of litter, then enjoyed cake, sweets, biscuits, tea and coffee afterwards.
Tree Planting
We planted 200 trees in total at the Plens, Desborough.
We planted 50 trees which we received from the Woodlands Trust and that we had been growing on in pots to establish a better root system. Four of our members looked after these mini tree nurseries.
We then planted a further 150 trees with representatives of North Northants Council who provided the trees, canes, spiral guards and mulch pats. They arranged the area which was overgrown grass. The council had been watching the grass for a number of years to see if any wild flowers would establish but it was just grass and nettles. A couple of weeks before our planting day the council cut the grass ready. But due to long established grass, we used mulch mats to help the trees compete against the grass. We were joined by one local volunteer too.
