The Young Photographer of Mann Competition was organised by the Club to encourage young photographers on the Island to express their views on how they saw the Island.
The competition was open to 11-18 year-olds living on the Island, and received 126 entries from 26 young photographers.
The photos were judged by two well-known Island photographers – David Silvester and Ron Strathdee. Before they saw them, all the names were removed from entries and in a lengthy session, the judges agreed a shortlist of 20 entries that were then refined down to yield twelve winning entries to appear in a 2025 calendar.
The winning entries came from ten talented young photographers from across the Island. The overall winner was Iva Petrova, who goes to Ballakermeen High School, who was presented her £250 prize by Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer. Her photo, “Sensational skies” features on the front cover of the Young photographer of Mann 2025 Calendar.
The other winners, whose photos appear on the calendar were Matthew Ackron, Matthew Coates and Luke Coomer, all from from Castle Rushen High School, Jenson Curphey from Queen Elizabeth II High School, Oliver Drugan and Stan Dentith from Ramsey Grammar School, Stephen Jukes from Ballakermeen High School, Zoe Kirk from UCM and Matilda Bird-McGowan from King Williams College.
The organizer, Rotarian David Scott said “The quality this year was really high and not only reflects the abilities of our young photographers but also represents a fabulous collection of the moods that go to make our Island such a wonderful place. We hope people will want to buy copies of the calendar to send to friends and family over Christmas; all the proceeds from sales will go to support Rotary charities, which include many local groups across the Island as well as those in need internationally.”
Each month of the calendar was sponsored by a different local firm - Reayrt Noa Consultancy Group, Manx Citizens Advice Service, Hockney Stevens, Celton Manx, MJC Guitars, Dandara, Hill Robinson, Crowe, Blackford, the Falcon’s Nest Hotel, emcs and the Claremont Hotel
The calendar will be available from a number of outlets on the Island.
The 2025 competition will start next March.
