FFW 2018, organised by Fleet Rotary, was successfully completed by 130 walkers, on a dry but cool day. The full charity return has yet to be finalised but we expect it to exceed the 2017 total of £6,000
The walk included all the main nature areas of Fleet: Calthorpe Park (start & finish), Elvetham Heath Nature Area, Ancell’s Farm, Fleet Pond and the Basingstoke Canal towpath
All walkers expressed their enthusiasm for the event, albeit some looked a bit weary. The walk was 9.4 miles – longer than intended because of the need to re-route the finish to avoid the re-scheduled Fleet ½ Marathon that was being set-up on Calthorpe Park.
Fleet Rotary is indebted to the friends and guests who helped marshal, and to 22nd Odiham Fleet Scouts and 26th Odiham Sea Scouts who offered their huts for the start and finish.
Most of the walkers asked that the walk be done again next year.
Fleet Rotary plans that FFW 2019 will be held on Saturday 4th May 2019, please put it in your diary.
To add interest the main walk will be altered in some parts and reduced to about 7.5 miles. For those who would like more of a challenge there will also be a route extension: rather than finishing from the Basingstoke Canal towpath to Gen Road and Calthorpe Park, the walk extension will continue along the towpath to Crookham village and return across the fields to Calthorpe Park, an additional 5 miles.
The attached pictures show some of the happy and fulfilled walkers.
