District 1240 have a new Facebook Group for our Rotakids & Interact clubs – District 1240 Rotakids & Interact. It is there for our Rotakids Clubs to share their projects, ideas and achievements. If you are a Rotarian, school staff member, parent then we would love you to join our group and see what is going on in Essex, East Herts. and the London Borough of Havering. You might find some good ideas for your own Rotakids Club!

This Youth Project has been put on hold and no new applications are being processed. I am attending a meeting (on Zoom) with our two young people who should have been at a Camp this year and have agreed to attend next year. This meeting brings together all young people in this position.
RotaKids/Interact; Once again this project is on hold unless clubs are able to contact schools. Having had a meeting with District Youth Coordinators it was agreed that we would set up a Face book Page for RotaKids/Interact. We are also asking that we have Interact Clubs from feeder RotaKids Clubs were possible so that we may have a clear run from Junior School to Secondary School and hopefully inspire new Rotarians eventually. This of course needs a big helping hand from Clubs. Details for RotaKids Clubs will be circulated and once Covid 19 goes we may look to visit Secondary Schools to establish an Interact Club or vice versa.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE NOW HAVE A YOUTH SERVICE GAZEBO WHICH MAYBE BORROWED VIA PETER DOWSE OR STEVE WALLBANK. I ALSO HAVE A NUMBER OF YOUTH PULL UPS.
Steve Wallbank and I appreciate that there are difficulties getting entry into schools but some are now wanting to enter our competitions so please try and make contact, especially to restart or start a RotaKids or Interact Club. We are hoping to tie up RotaKids Clubs to Interact Clubs so there is continuity through the Rotary Family experience. It is hoped to have a one day RotaKids Conference next year and we are looking at a venue with reduced costs to the one we had at Colchester United Football Club. May I remind you also of the District 1240 RotaKids Face book page?
LAMP and RYLA – We now have a few teams wishing to participate in LAMP (Leadership and Management Programme) but any last minute entries would be considered. It is hoped that we will have a RYLA either connected to LAMP or a standalone RYLA. However, we will probably try for one day at present hoping to get a full day of activities and leadership.
Some of you may have heard of our partnership the N.C.S. (National Citizens Service) which caters for 16 to 17 year olds to offer experiences which hopefully would benefit them in adulthood. The Service is not up and running for Essex presently but Steve W and me keep in contact with them.
Young Citizens Competition – District 1240 have had a couple of excellent success with this competition and for the last 5 years we have had entries to the competition with at least one winner appearing on BBC TV. Please try and find a young person near you who should be put forward. If you find that person, fill in the form on the RGB&I Website and send it off but send a copy to me please. Don’t forget there are three categories.
Details of our coordinators for the various competitions may be found on the website together with the online Youth Booklet in full colour which may be sent to schools. If you cannot find it let me know and I will forward to you.
The role of District Youth Leader is a very busy one but I am pleased to say that both Steve Wallbank and I now share the Leadership role and would be happy to talk at your meetings if required. I attended one Area Presidents meeting with the respective AG and would be willing to do that for the other AG’s if required.
I am pleased to announce that we now have a coordinator for YOUNG FILMAKER, Graham Reeder (Westcliffe RC) so I am hoping there are budding filmmakers out in the District.
The Environment is totally in vogue at the present time so please encourage schools or neighbours and friends to ask our young people to enter our Young Environmentalist this year. Our District hasn’t entered at all since its inception so please push this competition.
As the National lead for Young Photographer please let me know if I can help at all although Jenny Versey our District Coordinator will also be available to assist enquiries for YP or Young Writer.
But don’t forget Young Artist. I will be soon asked for ideas for themes for next Rotary Year, if you have any ideas or suggestions please send to me. I cannot promise they will get the vote from District Youth Leaders around RGB&I but I can try.
Finally, any young person wishing to do Youth Exchange or Youth Camp please let them indicate their considerations on youthexchange.org.uk and it will eventually come to me (Peter). This must be completed by January 2022. We have one young person hoping to go to a camp somewhere in the World after waiting 2 years. Hopefully the dreaded virus will allow her to go in 2022. It is an experience many young people would love to go but they need the information, please. N.G.S.E. is for 18- 25 year old wishing to go to a country for humanitarian or vocational interest either singularly or in a small group. Let me know if you have any requests or interest. Good Luck with the Competitions and Programmes.
