MEMBERS OF EWELL ROTARY, EPSOM ROTARY AND FRIENDS LENDING A HELPING HAND
From time to time the Epsom Common Allotment Society gather a group of willing volunteers to carry out work around the allotment. Maggie is a member of the Allotment Society and has also pulled together a group from Ewell Rotary, Epsom Rotary and friends.
We spent much of the morning litter picking around the outside of the site, where wild vegetation should grow well, only to find an array of plastic and huge carpets piles which were dumped some time along the way. The Council have spent time recently clearing some of the plots where were no longer in use and will be collecting the rubbish to clear the sites. On a couple of the sltes were disused greenhouse frames, and these days they could be made good using polycarbonate to glaze so a smaller one will be used on our allotment plot and the other will be used on the communal allotment. This will also save these going to landfill! It took quite a few of us to manoeuvre the larger one as the picture shows. Another community venture, worth while and treated to coffee and cake afterwards.
