Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Dunmow

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Dunmow Web Site.

Great Dunmow , an attractive market town nestling in the heart of rural Essex, is known by many people as the home of the ancient Flitch Trials - the traditional test of a happy marriage. Held every 4 years on a leap year - the winning couple is paraded through the town on a special chair and then awarded their flitch or side of bacon with much celebration.

The Rotary Club meets at The Saracen's Head Hotel every Thursday at 12.45pm.

The Saracen's Head is a 16th Century Posting Inn with a later georgian facade. Cromwell is reputed to have stayed here. In 1786 The Riot Act was read from the steps when violence flared after a new landlord broke the ancient town pump and filled the well with stones.
