Welcome to the website of the Rotary Club of Eccles

The Home of the Original Eccles Cake

April is Literacy Month

As part of our ongoing campaign to promote literacy in Eccles, every cghild who visited our book swap stall this month was given a free book of their choice.  We have a selection of good quality childrens books each month as well as many categories of books for adults.  The book swap takes place on the third Saturday of each month, on the same day as the Farmer's Market.  The money generated by the book swaps has already funded a newly commissioned talking book for visually impaired children.

We are delighted to announce a new project for the benefit of voluntary groups in Eccles.

The 'Make a Difference Grants'

Are you involved with a voluntary group in Eccles?

Would a grant of up to £50 make a difference to what you can do?

It might enable you to:
  • Get a piece of equipment; perhaps for a play group.
  • Improve a meeting room
  • Get someone trained; perhaps in craft skills or food hygiene
  • Make something; perhaps reading packs for young mums to borrow, table cloths to improve a coffee bar
  • Purchase some equipment for your own fund raising
If you think this is something that would help YOUR GROUP please make contact with us.
You can email us at president@ecclesrotary.org or use the CONTACT FORM at the top of this page.

All we need is your name and the name of your organisation together with a BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU ARE HOPING FOR and how we can get in touch with you.

In addition to the book swap the club has been featuring Polio Eradication and the Rotary response to the horrors of the Haiti earthquake during "Thanks for Life"week in February.
For more than 20 years, Rotary has led the private sector in the global effort to rid the world of this crippling disease. Today, Rotary's role in the initiative is recognized worldwide as a model of public-private cooperation in pursuit of a humanitarian goal.
In addition to providing financial and volunteer support, Rotary works to urge support from other public and private sector partners. This includes the campaign to End Polio Now, inspired by the extraordinary challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  more...
ShelterBox is an international charity which originated and is based in Cornwall, that provides immediate shelter, warmth and clean water to people in disaster areas all around the world.  The Eccles Rotary club is proud to support this initiative, further information can be found on the ShelterBox website and the film on the left shows their work in Haiti.

What would it take to change the world? Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio. This site explains some of the contribution that the Rotary Club of Eccles makes but have you got 4 minutes to find out more about what Rotary does across the world. Have a look at this film.
