View From The Pavilion

Out Going Presidential Evenong held at The Cavendish Pavilion on the Bolton Abbey Estate.

On the first rainy evening for over a week, Club members, their guests and members of Inner Wheel gathered at The Cavendish  Pavilion on the Bolton Abbey Estate to celebrate the Presidential Year of John Armstrong. Despite the lashing rain outside and the occasional soaked dog walker passing, the Pavilion atmosphere was warm, full of light-hearted banter, cheer and good fellowship that would easily overcome even  the worst of the English weather.

Beginning with a refreshing fruit starter, followed by a delicious main course of either salmon or pork chop, then rounded off by a sumptious dessert, we were regally entertained by an informative talk about the Bolton Abbey Estate delivered enthusiastically by Moira Smith [Estate Visitor Manager] which showed her great passion for her work on the Estate. We learnt how the Estate is managing its appeal to cater for a wider range of visitors, especially the opening of footpaths for visitors with restricted mobility. Renovation of the ancestorial home was described and some of the history of the Estate was shown through contemporary photographs. All too quickly the evening drew to its conclusion, however by then the rain had subsided and we were able to reach our assorted vehicles without the need of umbrellas.

We did almost enjoy Robert's Secretarial notices delivered from the bar, but his seamless glide across the Pavilion floor from bar to notices and his succinct address to the hordes demonstrated another one of his accomplishments.

Thanks must be expressed to John for his Presidency and  to Brenda for her tremendous support throughout the year. It's been a good year John. Well done from us all!
