Club Assembly and Duck Race Prizewinners

Thu, Jun 2nd 2011 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Before this week's meeting commenced, a number of the winners from last weekend's Duck Race came along to the Westlands Hotel to receive their prizes.

President Lawrie Orr opened the meeting by extending a warm welcome to visiting Rotarians Graham and Auriol Thornton from Colchester Trinity Club and also to Assistant Governor Samantha Miller.

George Morrison reported on a frenetic weekend of duck racing and tea serving during the Dunblane Fling, where the Club raised nearly £4000 for their chosen charities.

It was then on to more routine matters of our Club Assembly where President Elect Rod Jones laid out his vision for a busy and exciting year to come. Much was heard of the Club's continuing commitments to raise money for charitable causes through a range of events across the community, but also a new focus to engage with the youth of the Allanwater area through expanding contacts with the local schools. His incoming committee chairs set out their detailed plans for events to start from the new Rotary year on 1 July.

The Club has a number of key events on a very busy period in June, including the inaugural Judy Murray Tennis Cup to be held on Sunday 12th June at Dunblane Sports Club (see www.dunblanesportsclub.co.uk), a further opportunity for the public to sample our fabulous crepes at the forthcoming Armed Forces Day in Bridge of Allan on the 18th June, and then the Golf Am-Am event at Dunblane New Golf Club on the 28th June.
