Youth Opportunities Committee 

Purpose

Aims and Objectives of the Youth Opportunities Committee is to provide support and encouragement to young people in the Community and to give them the opportunity to develop awareness of, and involvement in Rotary.

The medium and long term plan is to engage with schools and colleges to improve communication in order to review and establish what the needs are in the community as opposed to what is currently provided,

Promote new ideas.

List of current  and planned events:

Youth Speaks

Croft School  will take place in February 2017

Partnership with  Stratford and Shipston Rotary Club

 

Teams  will consist for both  intermediate and senior categories from  Stratford Grammar School for Girls  King Edward VI Grammar School, Stratford upon Avon School and Shipston High School, Kineton High School

Local Heat winners have opportunity to go on to  District, Regional and National Finals

 

Promoting a life skill to students

Young Chef

Scheduled for  January  2017

 This event will take place at Stratford School

 

 

 

Student Scheme

 

Funds  are available for 10 Primary schools for essential field activities

 

Providing disadvantaged children  with opportunities

Youth Celebrates

 This evnt will take place at the Levi Fox Hall KES in March 2017

 

 Stratford Rotary and County Music Service together are staging this event for the 6th year in 2017. Based on its success of 2016 the event  will remain at the Levi Fox Hall  where the event has been expanded  and now includes  participants from school chamber choirs As well as the many  small groups of instrumentalists  from children from 7yrs – 18years 

The purpose of the event is -

•              Provide an opportunity for young people to work together, directing them and making artistic decisions

•              Provide an opportunity outside school to perform themselves and to listen and learn from others

•              Celebrate achievement in young people.

 

 Design and Innovation

Planned for April /May 2017

 

 Stratford Rotary Club liaise with , GCSE and A level Design and Technology school teachers  from Stratford School and KES  and Shipston High School. Each of the schools enter  students  who are producing coursework which match the judging criteria

Winners of local rounds will be eligible to enter the District Finals in July 2017

 

To give full time (year 11 up  to and including year 13) GCSE and A level Design Technology students an opportunity to show case their design and technology coursework.

Opportunity for Students to present their projects to the public 

 

 

 

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

Youth Opportunities plan to support a local student to attend this residential course at  Morton Morrell College in July 2017

Opportunity for students  to prepare them for University, meeting students from all over the world

Rotary/ KES Annual Debate

This annual event will take  place on October 12th  2017

Opportunity for students to test their debating skills in the “non-academic world”

 

 

Winning participants from all the Rotary sponsored events 

Each of these students  will be asked to present their experience to a Rotary meeting

 Opportunity for students  to give feedback on their event and give them  an experience in public speaking
