There were two main activities undertaken by our Group during the past year.
In December we were involved in the preparations for the Charity Christmas Concert held in All Saints Church. The music was provided mainly by the Oriana Singers, and our Group took responsibility for ticket sales and the catering arrangements. A very successful evening was enjoyed by a good-sized audience, raising a pleasing sum for charity.
The major summer event in which we participate is Kids Out! in Wicksteed Park in June. We have again supported Rowan Gate Primary School to enjoy this occasion, with the help of sponsorship from Barton Petroleum. A number of Rotarians, not only from the Community Group, have agreed to support the event, adding their help to the many teachers and carers who enable many disadvantaged young children to enjoy a free day out at this excellent facility.
Earlier in the year, the Know Your Own Blood Pressure event took place in Wellingborough, as across the country. A number of Rotarians from our Group took part in the event, encouraging members of the public to be aware of the need for blood pressure monitoring.
We are very conscious of the needs of less fortunate people within our town, and we intend to make a contribution towards the valuable work done by the Daylight Centre. We hope to support them both financially and on a personal level.
Rotary has made a donation to Ruskin Primary School, for outdoor educational equipment that the youngest children can use. This is to be installed during the summer holidays, and we hope to follow it up during the Autumn term. We would be pleased to become involved in other initiatives taking place in local schools.
