Another great evening
The first in a series of Rotary information sessions, developed by the club's working party, was presented by Peter Farr, one of the club's vice presidents. He told members that he joined 4 years ago and, like all new members, was made to feel very welcome and quickly found he wanted to learn more about Rotary.
He stressed the importance of the club as the basic unit of Rotary. Clubs are about people joining together and building strong friendships which form the basis of doing more for others than can be done individually. Each club has its home, for us it's the Westlands Hotel in Dunblane where we meet our friends - other members and often welcome visitors from other Clubs and those who are interested in Rotary.
Clubs recognise that all members are of equal worth. Members are usually invited to join, although this is changing. Clubs' good works are on many levels from local, e.g. the Winter Treat for senior citizens; to the global programme for eradication of polio.
Rotary is international since its start in in 1905. It is now one of the most effective and largest charities world-wide. Rotary defines itself as service in the community and the workplace and recognises the worthiness of all occupations. Service above self' is its motto; it has no political allegiance.
Currently Rotary is increasing its diversity. We are proud to have recruited 9 women and are about to establish an Interact Club for young people.
