The speaker at the first meeting following the festive break was Pam McNicol.
Pam graduated in Mediaeval History at St Andrews University, completed her post graduate qualification in Archive Administration at the University of North Wales, Bangor then worked at Tyne and Wear, Edinburgh and Renfrewshire before taking up her current post as Archivist with Stirling Council, based at Borrowmeadow Road in Springkerse.
Pam revealed there was a huge resource of information held in the archives, in controlled conditions, which are available for public inspection. These cover such areas as education records, local crime information, property transactions, maps, estate records and newspapers.
The archives are extensively used for researching local and family history and can offer a fascinating insight into community life going back to the 19th century. The oldest document held is a Charter dating back to the 14th century
Pam is anticipating a very busy period in 2014 with the 100th anniversary of the Great War and the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn.
Stuart Brown gave Pam the club's thanks for a very interesting and informative talk.
In other news, Lawrie Orr reported there were 5 teams entered for the Primary School Quiz to be held on Friday 7 February at the Chalmers Hall in Bridge of Allan.
