President Colin Strachan welcomed members to last week's combined Business and Annual General Meeting at the Westlands Hotel.
Mary Fraser reported on her recent visit to Malawi where she, Audrey Cooper and Helen Cheyne from Stirling University had met with the successful candidate for the scholarship at the University to undertake a Masters Degree in Health Research (MRes Health Research). They also visited the Rotary Club of Limbe, who are partnering us in the project and Mary brought back a banner which she presented to the club.
Following the business meeting, committee chairs reported on the year's activities which showed the club had had another successful year, with well over £30,000 raised and distributed to a wide range of deserving causes. In addition to the fundraising, many other social and sporting activities were undertaken. Particular mention was made of the joint activities with the Queen Victoria School Interact Club which were always great fun and helped develop strong links with the youngsters.
Commenting on the reports, President Colin expressed his thanks to all members for their hard work and looked forward to the following year with confidence. He also thanked all others who had been involved in the club's activities, partners, local businesses and individuals who had supported our efforts and made his year in office so rewarding.
