Following her success in the local heat of the Young Chef Competition held in December 2013, Dunblane High pupil Samindi Gunasinghe travelled to Dundee on 25 January for the District 1010 (South) final.
Accompanied by her teacher, Sheila Nairn and Community Service convenor, John Kilby, Samindi was one of 10 competitors vying for a place in the Rotary Zone final to be held in Glasgow in March. Commenting on the standards, the judges said that all competitors had produced very well prepared and interesting plates of food and it had been difficult to separate them.
Samindi was just pipped at the post for first place by Mairead Melvin, a pupil at St. Columba High in Dunfermline and sponsored by Dunfermline Carnegie Rotary, however was delighted to receive a nice silver salver, a cheque, a framed certificate and a bag of goodies for an excellent performance.
Third place went to Leon Abolghassan from Elmwood College, sponsored by the Howe of Fife club.
