Handover from President Mary to our New President Nick

Nick Rawlings receives the chain of office from outgoing President Mary Fraser

HANDOVER

It’s at this time of year that Presidents of Rotary Clubs relinquish their office, handing over to the President Designate – essentially the President-in-Waiting - who then assumes the mantle of President.  It’s a time for looking both to the future, but also for the outgoing President to look back at the year just past.

In the case of the Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club, President Mary Fraser, the Club’s first woman President, was glowing in her praise of members of the Club.  She said: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have held this role, and I am confident that, as the club now passes to President Nick Rawlings, he will find it in good heart, full of energy and enthusiasm.”  Looking back over her year as President, she highlighted the many achievements of the Club in the course of the year, with special mention of the Duck Race and the associated work with the Dunblane Fling, and of the Am-Am Golf Competition, which together raised more than £17,500 for charity.  She continued: ”In these, and the very many other events undertaken by the Club, we have worked to develop links with all sections of the community, from the young, by way of the Primary School Quiz, and other activities for schools, as well as to older members of the community with the annual Treat.  In all our activities, we have had the whole-hearted support of Club members who have given of their time to enhance the community.”

Responding to Mary’s remarks, President Nick Rawlings:  “I pay tribute to Mary:  she can be proud of what has been achieved in her year of office.  As a result of her efforts, I can look forward with enthusiasm to the year ahead, and I am confident that we can continue to promote Rotary in all its aspects, from the worldwide battle against polio, which is so close to being eradicated, to our efforts with the local community.  I am confident that we can confirm the Club is attractive to existing and prospective members.  My objectives for the year are that we should be kind, be useful, and that we should have fun.”

President Nick then passed the insignia of the President Designate to George Morrison, who, in turn, passed the insignia of President Nominee to John Kilby.

A meeting on Thursday 30 June will be held at the Westlands Hotel, Doune Road, at 6.00 for 6-30pm. The speaker will be Hugh Grant who will talk about his experiences in a wide variety of countries, and what he has learnt from those experoences.   Visitors are always very welcome.  Anyone interested in attending should contact the Club Secretary, Iain Fraser at secretary@dunblanerotary.org.  Tel: 01786 822751.
