Over 75's Christmas Lunch

9th December 2023

The Rotary Club of Princes Risborough and all those who enjoyed the Christmas lunch for the elderly living alone on 9th December would like to thank everybody who made the event such a success, particularly to Ashlea Catering  who has provided the food to such an outstanding level ever since this occasion was initiated back in 2011.

Thanks also go to the Club which again provided the funds for the event, supported by a grant from the Town Council, cookies for our ‘guests’ to take away with them after the lunch and drivers to get them to and from the Princes Centre.  In addition, to Cath Cambell for doing such a great job working with Bex in the Library to identify and ‘marshall’ our attendees and providing her fruit punch on arrival and being my invaluable contact in the Town, not least with the WI who also helped us on the day.  Thanks also, Tina Brown who has been involved for over 10 years and is our link with the Beavers in PR who made Christmas cards for all the guests and provided treats and decorations on the tables.  And other long-term stalwarts, Sylvia Baker and Sally Baker from the town who gave invaluable support on the day.

The lunch was graced by the presence of the Mayor Andy Ball, St Marys Church’s Rev David Williams, Cllr Matthew Walsh, Greg Smith MP and the Rotary Club President. Once again, the Princes Risborough Ukulele Group provided 45 mins of festive songs in their own unique style, after the meal.

There is clearly a need for events like this in Princes Risborough and the Rotary Club is considering what else it might do for the growing community of the elderly living alone in and around the town - we had 70 plus booked in for the lunch on Saturday with ages up to 97 and had a significant waiting list!
