Wykeham lakes: from Scarborough take the A170 towards Pickering. Wykeham lakes are signposted to the left just after leaving West Ayton and before Wykeham. From Pickering take the A170 towards Scarborough and take a right turn as signposted after passing through Wykeham village. Follow the lane south to arrive at the lakes complex

Park and ride

The main Car park A is at the entrance to the site.

Two permits per paddler team are issued for Car park C near the lake (allows for transfer of kit to the lake).

Lake side Car park D is only for disabled (blue Badge ) holders and essential workers

No ‘drop offs’ -double journeys are allowed for reasons of traffic safety.

Cars are parked at owners’ risk.

Parking -entrance fees

Prices include use of shuttle bus to lakeside, and programmes which serve as entrance ticket.  Children under 12 years are free


Single adult occupancy £5.00 includes programme

Multiple adult occupancy £10.00.  Includes programmes.

Larger vehicles whether or not parked on site.

6-12 passengers  £15.00-includes programmes

13-17 passengers £20.00-includes programmes

18 plus passengers £2.00 per person -includes programme

Shuttle  bus service to the lake is included, (people may choose to walk through the woods.(10-15minutes).


Up to sixteen paddlers plus a drummer make up a crew. Teams sometimes nominate up to 20 people so that there are a few reserves/substitutes – this also spreads the costs and increases the fund raising capacity of the team.

Anyone over 12 years of age who is able to swim 50 metres with a buoyancy aid (which is provided) is eligible to take part

Teams: arrival & check in

Registration is open from 08.00 at the lakeside Rotary control centre.  Team captains will report on arrival and hand over (or check) their team waiver sheet.

Return to Rotary control to advise when all crew have arrived and then wait to be called for safety briefing by Dragon Boat Events at the lakeside.

On completion all paddlers will be identified by a wrist band to be worn all day.

Races Format

The first race is at 10.00 am and the finals are planned to be at 3.30pm - somewhat dependant on the number of entrants and the weather conditions.

Each team will participate in two heats. Based on the fastest times Gold and Silver divisions will be formed for the third heats. The fastest four in each heat will contest the finals.


Team outfits are good for identification when racing and keeping track of team mates!.  Fancy Dress or dressing in support of sponsors is to be encouraged.


There are medals for the 1st,2nd, and 3rd teams in both divisions and engraved trophies for both the winners.

Shore side facilities

The grassed and gravelled areas are available to set up team and supporter ‘camps’. You may bring your own seats and rugs. Some plastic chairs are available. Gazebos not exceeding 3mx3m may be used but space is limited.

Paddling and swimming in the lake is not allowed

First Aid

Facilities on site. Please report to the Dragon boat control tent.


Dogs on a lead are welcome - and owners with their own cleaning up items.


Our caterers, provide excellent quality food and drink at affordable prices    Please do support them, they will meet all your food and beverage requirements.

Cavalier  BBQ-ists -. Catering for vegetarians as well.  Bacon butties from 8.00am.

Sausages and burgers, veggie –burgers.  hotdogs and baguettes all day.

Ice cream -famous Harbour Bar ice cream.

Bar - In the marquee.  Provided by the Downe Arms   Please drink responsibly - paddlers ‘under the influence’ will not be allowed to take part.
