The Presidential Citation is one of the highest awards made to clubs by Rotary International, and it is, to say the least, challenging to achieve. The citation is in the gift of the current President of Rotary International and is awarded on an annual basis worldwide. On 10th October 2018, this award was made to the 2017/18 President of the Rotary Club of Alloa, Kevin McLeod, and the 34 club members who achieved the many challenging goals, carefully recorded by Club Secretary Fiona MacPhie.
John Holme said: “Clubs have to achieve at least four goals in a range of categories. For instance, to support the club, there has to be a net gain in membership, more female members and members engaged in activities outside regular club meetings. I think that anyone who has visited the club’s Facebook page will know just how many extra-curricular activities this club has not only done but carried out with great success; Alloa Academy’s Interact Club, established by this club, and supported for the last six years, the Ride for Prostate Cancer, the fundraising to end Polio in the world as well as to support local charities.
And they also have fun with theatre outings and even a poker night. In short, Alloa Rotary is a vibrant and active Rotary club, adapting to modern circumstances and needs with its two meetings – lunchtime here, and informally in the pub on a Thursday evening. Not just adapting but moving forward with social and environmental projects that do good in the community and showcase what Rotary is all about.
This club is an example to all other clubs in the District, and this has been rightly recognised by the award of the Rotary International Presidential Citation, the certificate for which I am delighted to hand over to the club.”
Current President, Alistair Spowage said: “I’d like to extend a massive thank you to all the local people who support our fundraising events, such as our Hillwalk Challenge and Santa at Sterling. We would not have achieved our Citation without your help.”
