Friendship Exchange - Australia

Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) to Australian District 9640 – October 2024

We are looking for a group of 10 -12 adults (Rotarians, partners and single Rotarians) to take part in the exchange visit.

Date of the exchange visit – 12th -25th October 2024

The Rotary District

Although District 9640 is linked through Rotary it is divided geographically, economically and culturally. The District cuts across the New South Wales- Queensland border and is located between Grafton in the south-east, Goondiwindi in the north-west and the Gold Coast in the north-east.

The adjacent hinterland contains subtropical rainforests in world heritage national parks.

Industries in the district range from Australia’s best-known tourist area at the Gold Coast to a plethora of rural productivity in dairy cattle, sheep, beef cattle, wine, cotton, wheat, seafood, fruit, and sugar cane. Culturally there are many wonderful art galleries, museums, and music centres in the District.

Arrival airport

RFE groups usually fly in / out of international airports e.g Coolangatta in the Gold Coast which is within the District or Brisbane which is just 60 miles north.

The main airport in the Gold Coast is Coolangatta and flight to Coolangatta can be had from all the main cities (Sydney / Melbourne) by Virgin Australia or Jetstar. If you arrive in Brisbane you can travel by train to Varsity Lakes where your Rotarian hosts will collect you. It is possible to book flight with companies like Trailfinders, The Flight Centre. You might also want to look at a flight comparison website like Skyscanner and Kayak.

Costs

Visiting Rotarians are expected dto pay their own airfares and transport costs. The hosts provide accommodation, breakfast and some evening meals.
