1952 - Inaugural Meeting

The Inaugural Meeting of the Interim Rotary Club of Troon was held on the 4th March 1952 at 7.30p.m. in the Craiglea Hotel, South Beach Troon. 19 Founder Members attended. 49 Rotarians from Ardrossan-Saltcoats, Ayr, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Hamilton, Kelvin (Glasgow), Lanark, Oban, Prestwick, Queens Park and Govan Formation attended. 14 guests of the Troon Members were also present. William Winkler, Chairman of District No. 2 of Rotary GB&I was in the Chair. After the Roll Call of the Clubs present and the Roll Call of Founder Members had been read Herbert R. Statham, District Extension Officer, called on the Chairman to create the Interim Club of Troon. In response the Chairman, having gone over the various duties of Rotarians, called on A. F. McDonald, President of the Prestwick Club, a Club founded only four years earlier, to second his Motion of the Interim Club of Troon. On the call of A. F. MacDonald the Motion was unanimously approved. Thus was born the Rotary Club of Troon, the special bond with the Prestwick club continuing from that time.

The Charter Dinner was held in the Marine Hotel on 6th October, 1952. The price of the dinner was to be 13/-, a further 2/6d. for cocktails, plus 10% service charge. The total price of tickets was set at
