Shelterbox
Shelterbox is an international disaster relief charity which was founded in 2000 in Helston, Cornwell, by Rotarian and former Royal Navy Search and Rescue Diver Tom Henderson.
It provides emergency shelter and other aid items such as mosquito nets, water filters, water carriers, solar lights, cooking sets, blankets and mats to families in need. Shelterbox Response Teams distribute aid in emergencies, such as the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, or the 2017 hurricanes Irma and Maria in the Caribbean.
Since 2000 Rotary Clubs from all over the world have become involved in fundraising for Shelterbox in order to ensure that help is available when disasters occur. Some 1000 Rotarians volunteer to help with shelterbox and its response teams.
The Rotary Club of South Foreland supports Shelterbox.
