Thursday 9 January 2025 Breakfast meeting Present • Sue, Ian, Maggie, Pat, David M, Andrew, Godfrey, Robert, Kathy, Fiona, Andrew M, Elaine, Nick, Paul, Pippa, Spiros. Guest • Robert McFarlane Apologies • David K, gerry, Hilary, Jean, Kathy, Lesley, Maureen, Marian, Pete, Reggie, David C, Trevor. No birthdays this week Grace given by Paul. Treasurer’s report • Current balances: Club account £253; Charity account £1900 • Tankerton football club are seeking funding for changing rooms, proposal to the club was agreed to donate £500, if possible to utilise District grant money, timescales are important so David will investigate these with Tankerton FC. • Pop up banners - Nick is seeking costs. New banners will enable showcasing of the various charities we have, are and potentially will support. Also more pictures rather than words. • District grants have now opened again for applications. Fundraising • Car parking - next date 8/02. No further dates at present. • Two quiz nights: 12/04 & 15/11. • Golf day 12/09. • Tesco collection: Sue to speak to Sam re Christmas 25 date/s, also see possibilities for Easter and Halloween collections. Has proved to be a good fundraiser. Applications being taken for the Easter rabbit � or Pumpkins � • Possible future events: presidential sky dive, selling items on an online site, eg Facebook marketplace or Gumtree. Social • Bowling and meal 14/3 there is a sheet in the events folder. Pat will look at somewhere for a meal, proposed the Hampton Inn. • Potential future events: Club quiz night with meal, Pat, Godfrey and Fiona have various questions and answers; Escape room; coach trip to somewhere of interest. Need to gauge support and seek members to lead on projects. • Bat and Trap season starts again in May. International • Request from Emma for Bhutan - timescales don’t match grant timescales. Andrew to speak to Emma. • Walk for Water 21/03 - 5 schools confirmed, still to hear from two.the club needs a many members as possible to help on the day with marshalling to ensure safety of all students and teachers. Community and Vocational • Thank you for shoe boxes circulated from Kathy. • Haven donations were gratefully received, this is ongoing. Sue will collect and donate. • Request received from an individual in Wales for funding to travel and teach in Thailand, members agreed we respond that we look locally to support groups and individuals. Fiona will write to individual wishing them well, Youth • Invite received for Rotary Young Musician final 8/02 Criterion Theatre. Sue and Kath are going to represent the Club, others welcome but need to book direct as per email circulated to club. Membership • Harbour day 9/08 is being organised, good to have a stand to promote Rotary. Kathy is on the organising committee and will inform our club of the appropriateness of a stand to ‘market’ Rotary. Health and Safety • Santa’s sleigh incident - after a minor demolition exercise on our travels it is proposed future sleigh collections have a dedicated banksman to walk with the sleigh to assist with manoeuvres. AOB • Gill Kingham’s requiem mass is on 15/01 12midday at the church of Our Lady Immaculate, Northwood Road, Tankerton. • Cover for meetings agreed in late February early March as Sue, Ian and Kathy are away. Andrew to chair 27/02 & 6/03. Ian will be back for meeting on 13/03. Board will move to 18/03. • Brian Dunne is expected at the meeting on 13/03. • James Flanagan is attending the meeting on 16/01. Need to let him know of any pressing questions people would like answered. Please send to Fiona by Sunday to give him time to research these. Raf • A scented candle was won by Spyros. Master at Arms • Phones, queue jumping, Bonfire night in September, et • Today in 1799 William Pitt the younger introduced income tax to fund the Napoleonic wars - something else to blame the French for � � • This month we celebrate Ginuary � and also abstain with dry January ☕ Greetings from other clubs • Indirectly, a friend of Godfrey’s, a Dover Rotarian, visited New Zealand and was taken out for a meal. Final toast was given by Godfrey. Next meeting 16/01/25 7.30 for 8 am at the Plough inn
