Thursday 10 April 2025 Breakfast meeting Apologies- David K, Gerry, Hilary, Jean, Marian, Nick, Pete, Pippa, Reggie, Trevor. Guests- John Wainwright, Lynn Smith, Anne Hill. Grace given by Paul. Fundraising- Quiz night Saturday, Godfrey is still accepting raffle prizes. Sue will do a list of prizes for the tables. Remember to input your car registration numbers if parking in 5e church or church hall car parks. Nick was asked to bring our new banners along for the evening. Social- 7/5 Whitstable rotary and Hounds for Heroes are celebrating VE Day with a buffet and entertainment from Winston Churchill at the Crescent Turner. Tickets £39, including a donation to Whitstable club charities. Contact Andrew Gough 07751053838 or Valerie 07850466207.- 19/8 Bat and Trap hosted by Canterbury Rotary at the Olde Beverlie. Team to be identified once we’ve had opportunity to practice. International - £1000 has been donated to Shelterbox following the Myanmar disaster.- Pippa noted that £18.95 could cure a child in Africa of malaria, Andrew proposed the club gives a donation to the cause, the club agreed unanimously to approximately £400.- TWAM - a reminder of the collection morning coming up. Let your friends, neighbours, enemies know. Com Voc- Jane Myhill from St John’s is very pleased to receive toys and clothes based on our proposal to use the WI hall as a collection point. David has this in hand. 1 - Tankerton Football club are planning to convert a container into changing rooms with the money we have through a District grant application. There are timescales attached to the use of this money.- PHAB, physically handicapped and able bodied charity, has contacted the club and this will be discussed at board in May. Youth- Maggie has the documentation related to the cookery and photography competitions. Membership- Sue reported that the cluster group, via Canterbury Sunrise, are contacting the local chamber of commerce as a way into local businesses. Greetings from other clubs John Wainwright brought greetings from the Margate rotary president, Julie. John informed the club that Derek Downey, who we supported on his 90th birthday 9 day, 10 miles a day walk, raised over £35,000 for a local domestic abuse charity. Raffle was drawn by Andrew B and won by Andrew B Master at Arms � � a bottle of white wine.- Godfrey fined us for parking on lines, petty burglary, phone alarms, using toes as an excuse for taking the brown sauce bottle, Dave’s new trousers and Anne’s liquorice allsorts jumper.- Dave told us about Elvis Presley’s national service in bomb disposal … Suspicious Minds! Final toast given by Spyros. Next meeting is an EVENING meeting, 6.30 for 7pm sit down. Our speaker will regale us with tales from Route 66. Keeping up the American theme our menu choices are chicken burger and chips or chilli and chips/rice followed by cheesecake or Key Lime pie. Ensure Robert has your and your guests choices by Monday at the latest.
