Evening Assembly & Handover Meeting

Thursday, 19 June 2025 Breakfast meeting Apologies- Elaine, Hilary, Ian, Jean, Marian, Pete, Trevor Guests- Ronan Lennon, Ron Benning, Whitstable Juniors: Renee Greer and Imi, Blean Primary: Mrs Nelson, Ellen and her mum, Kent Uni: Lee Thompson. Grace from Paul. Birthdays and celebrations- Pippa and Spiros recently celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss � �- Sue birthday is on Saturday and she is hosting a family celebration � � Walk for Water- The schools, university and sponsors were thanked for helping us raise over £4,500.- The highest fund raisers received a trio of signed copies of Fabulous Facts books, as did the libraries in each school. All schools received certificates, as well as the university.- The event has now run for 15 years. Apart from Whitstable Juniors (10th year) and Blean primary (15th year), St Peter’s Methodist (12th year), Hampton (13th year), Endowed (6th year) and Herne (6th year) Primary Schools took part.- Thanks were given to Kent Uni for hosting the event for 15 years, McDonalds Whitstable and Canterbury providing fruit and water for 15 years and Canterbury Business Equipment, again for 15 years.- The funding is expected to go towards a junior style school in Kenya.- Date for everyone’s diary - 20/03/26. Fundraising - Car parking on Saturday - it will be hot so come prepared with sunscreen, hats, water, etc, etc…..- David shared certificates received from Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance for our donation to help the purchase. One was also received for Pippa for her donation. International- Andrew is hosting a meeting is the committee at his home on Wednesday, 6.30. Youth- Maggie now has the date for the final of the district Rotary Chef competition, April next year. Schools will be contacted in September. 1 Meeting venue- Sadly Mel and Chris are giving up here tenancy of the Plough, other possible venues for our meetings are being narrowed down. Ron Benning’s talk was postponed to a later date. Ron kindly donated a book for a future raffle. Greetings from other Clubs- Lesley brought greetings from a funeral!- Ronan brought greeting from his SA club. Raffle- Anne is now in charge of the raffle so prizes very gratefully received.- Another bottle of wine won by David M. Master at Arms- On Nick’s penultimate session we were fined for oxymorons, lateness, wrong names, among other things.- Today is world tapas day and world sauntering day.- In 1819 HMS Kite chased SS Savannah for three hours thinking it was on fire - it was a steam ship!- In 1829 Robert Peel passed the Metropolitan Police Act introducing Peelers and Bobbies! Final Toast from Sue. Next week’s Handover meeting is an EVENING meeting, 6.30 for 7pm, a buffet supper will be served
