A Gloucestershire born lady, Jane Walker, caught our attention a few years ago. She had encountered ‘the children who lived on the dumps’ on the outskirts of Manila, and was inspired to help them. She then proved inspirational in her fundraising efforts as well as her influence with BIG donors and the Philippines government.
Jane has spoken at our club as well as at other venues that we have arranged for her. We have assisted by promoting the products made by her charity, and a considerable degree of the popularity of the cause was because they collected physical objects [our rubbish e.g. ring pulls and empty plastic or metal tubes such as toothpaste] which had great appeal to children and young people. The idea of recycling such detritus into appealing consumer products had enormous power.
