John Miles talking about Rotary's Avoidable Blindness charity

Sun, Feb 20th 2022 at 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

John will be talking to us on Sunday 20th February. Visitors very welcome.

John Miles - We care for eyes

John Miles is a Rotarian from Surrey and became actively involved with Global Sight Solutions, originally known as The Guildford Rotary Eye Project, a little over ten years ago. He is a Trustee and was awarded a PHF, and also The Service above Self award, for his work in serving the avoidably blind.

John’s an industrial chemist and founded two companies providing protective coatings to the engineering trade. He retired aged 56 in 2002 and joined Rotary in 2003. His wife Fiona is a past President of Leatherhead RC. They have been married for over thirty five years and have two grown up children.

In addition to his work in helping to provide free eye care to the poor in India, Africa and elsewhere, John is also a speaker for Population Matters, which addresses the issues of an ever growing human population.

His fun time is spent enjoying very loud music, sport, travelling, and having published a joke book in 2007, and another in 2015, is now completing a third ready to release onto an unsuspecting public in the next few months. He therefore attempts to keep abreast of the more humorous side of life!
