Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) 2024

Another group of youngsters get a chance to experience RYLA

Rotary Youth Leadership Award, (RYLA), 2024

The RYLA course for students aged 14-16 took place over the weekend of May 10-12 at White Hall Outdoor Centre.

Participants came from all over the Rotary District 1220 and were supported by Rotarians and Rotaractors.

Outdoor activities such as abseiling, climbing, canoeing and caving were organized and supervised by the qualified staff at White Hall.

In a RYLA course, young people must work in teams to achieve specific objectives and are therefore encouraged to develop leadership and team-working skills.

Buxton Rotary were able to fund seven places on the course and recruited students from Buxton Community School, St. Thomas More School and Buxton Sea Cadets

All the students were fully funded by the Club and the funding came from several sources.

Specifically,

·         The Clubs own Trust Fund.

·         A Grant from the DWF Foundation in Manchester.

·         A Grant from Rotary District 1220 to support Ukrainian refugees.

They were blessed by glorious weather over the weekend and the course was a great success.

Here’s what two young Sea Cadets had to say,

Isabella

“Thank you for giving me this opportunity to go on this course, it has helped me to build my confidence and push me to try new things. I really enjoyed the abseiling even though I was a bit sceptical at first. My team leaders and new friends help me to gain the confidence to go over the bridge. I also want to say a big thank you to the White Hall staff for doing a great job of organizing such fun activities that happened throughout the weekend. Finally thank you to Rotary for funding the weekend and I hope others will be able to share the same experience as me. It was great fun Thank You.”

Finley

“Thank you so much to all the members of the, contact Rotary and Rotaract, the weekend was excellent. The activities were great fun and well organised, I liked that we were put into groups of people we didn’t know because it gave us a chance to meet new people. Thanks again to the Rotary for sponsoring and running such a fantastic weekend.”
