Lunch time meeting - two representatives from SAMH, Scottish Association for Mental Health. Islay Rackham and Louise Morgan.

On Thursday 24th October 2019 SVP Geoff Sampson took the chair in the absence of President Ewen Macdonald as he welcomed 20 Club Rotarians and 2 guest speakers Islay Rackham and Louise Morgan to this our lunch time meeting, which was held at the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes. 

On reception was Peter May and Anne Sampson who said grace.

This week our guest speakers were Islay Rackham and Louise Morgan from SAMH which is Scotland’s national mental health charity who have been around since 1923,  Today, in over 60 communities they work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others.  These services together with their national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform their policy and campaign work to influence positive social change. The types of services they offer across Scotland are: Therapeutic Horticulture, their horticulture services have a therapeutic impact on mental health recovery. Peer support whose peer support workers, each with their own experience of mental health problems, support others towards recovery. Employability, their National Employment Team helps people into work, training or education. Community Engagement who support people living with mental health problems towards recovery and engagement in the wider community. Homelessness they provide preventative work and practical support to individuals who are homeless or at risk. Addictions they help people in their recovery from addiction. Active Living, they champion active living as a vehicle for improving and maintaining good mental health and wellbeing.  Suicide prevention everyday SAMH works to prevent suicide through interventions and training. Supported Accommodation they provide emotional and practical support to people daily including living skills to help them keep their home. Mental Health Outreach provides housing support and outreach to people in their own homes where staff support people to develop, regain and maintain independent living skills.

The annual peace walk will take place on Thursday 7th November 2019.  

Our REYA fundraising night will take place on Monday 25th November 2019.

Our Santa Collection at ASDA will take place on Saturday 14th December 2019.

The annual Swimarathon fundraiser will take place on 1st March 2020

This coming week’s meeting on Thursday 31st October 2019 will be our monthly evening meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel. please meet 6.15pm for a prompt 6.30pm start. Our speaker this week will be our very own Rotarian and local and International renowned Town Artist Malcolm Robertson.

The Vintage afternoon tea which was held at the CISWO on Sunday afternoon 27th October was attended by 109 people was a great success with a cheque for £750 presented to The Fife Breathe Easy Charity and remaining proceeds from the event to other Rotary good causes.  The tea was provided by Kirkcaldy Rotarian Sharon Munro who owns the New York Sandwich place at the harbour Kirkcaldy, wonderful entertainment was by OneHeart who are all members of GAMA, will perform songs form the musicals
