Helping the local community

COMMUNITY & VOCATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE

The Rotary Club of Oxford is actively involved in funding charities, both local and overseas, and providing direct physical help for a variety of good causes.

Our Community and Vocational Service Committee is led by a highly motivated chairman, and supported by a committee of six members.  All club members may assist with projects as required.

In most years we provide a team to support OxClean, a civic society dedicated to keeping Oxford clean and tidy.

Recently we sent a cheque for £1,000 to the Oxford Hospitals Charity and organised a Christmas party for a local nursing home. We organised a summer garden party to raise funds for a school which one of our members is building in Africa.

In recent years we have donated to Phab, the social club for physically handicapped and able bodied people, the Food Bank at Rose Hill, the Oxford Hub, which promotes ways for everyone in Oxford to tackle inequalities through taking part in volunteering projects, to Seesaw, a local charity providing grief support for children and young people who may be preparing for the death of a loved one and for the aftermath.

We ran the car park and the hot dog, burgers and cakes stall at the Ffennell Festival, an outdoor event held at the Hill End Outdoor Education Centre in Oxford which offers family fun activities like climbing, pond dipping, bushcraft, etc.

For the current Rotary year 2025-26 year we are planning further support for many of our regular projects e.g. local food banks, entertainment for senior citizens in care homes, Seesaw, OxClean, Ffennell Festival.

We considering organising concerts to raise funds and we frequently invite representatives of good causes to give a talk to our members and spread the word.

By joining Rotary, members can quickly and easily get involved in any activities they wish, doing good while enjoying great fellowship and meeting new friends.
