Seven members from Rotary Club of Cowdenbeath visited the club on the occasion of the visit of District Governor, Brian Stewart. Brian addressed some of the answers to questions submitted to him prior to the meeting.
He revealed that members felt that they were proud to be part of a world wide organisation making a difference, eliminating Polio, and assisting local and international projects, like in Malawi.
He said members had asked him to address issues such as
* Difficulties with Recruitment especially younger members.
* Cost of membership plus meals a factor.
* New people come onto a sea of older faces, think about a satellite club for younger people.
* Flexibility and happy to change.
Suggested DGN and DGE’s should be the people visiting clubs since by the time they become DG they have a good grasp of what clubs in District are doing.
Referencing Rotary’s Action plan - Rotarygbi.org/action-plan
* Clubs need to work with other community organisations to ensure activities are relevant and coordinated without unnecessary duplication of effort.
* As a District, linking with DC Thomson to mount an intensivePR campaign
* Potential membership enquiries will initially be routed through District Membership channel
* One of our maxims here is that we are not selling an image of a Rotary that doesn’t exist
DC Thomson advert in Press and Journal said “Think You Know Rotary … Think again” to attract interest in joining Rotary. The District will be asking for support to extend DC Thomson adverting in Courier country.
He discussed how to increase membership numbers
1. Gaining members through signing up corporate members.
2. Expand Direct Membership
3. Enhance participant engagement to avoid new members leaving quickly.
4. Invite members to ‘bring a project’
5. Be flexible as a club
