Charter Dinner 2025

Fri, Jun 6th 2025 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Held at the Inn at Charlestown

The 2025 Charter Dinner was held at the Inn at Charlestown on Friday 6th June. Guest speaker the Rev. Alex Shuttleworth entertained attendees with his amusing stories and proposed the toast to the club.  President Mark commented:-

"Thanks for coming along to the Charter dinner last night. A couple of weeks ago, I was genuinely concerned that we were struggling for numbers, so thank you for all of you for joining us. I found the speaker engaging and very funny. I thought the hotel did us proud with the room and from a personal perspective I really enjoyed the meal. I feel bad about mentioning anything detrimental about the meal, but if I could. What were those portion sizes like?  I’m not sure I actually needed to eat today!  Once again thanks, Mark”

The evening also saw Paul Harris Fellowship awards being presented to Past Presidents Aileen North and Brian Mitchell.

Presidents Prize

President Mark said “This was probably one of the hardest decision I had to make during my presidential year as there were a couple of outstanding candidates. Before I hand the shield over I would like to place on record my thanks for the support I got from everyone on council and from the wider club, in attending meetings and social events. I’m not going to give a roll call, but special thanks to Robert North for stepping into the breach at the tail end (is that appropriate in the circumstances!!) of last year. At this stage although not a rotarian I have to publicly acknowledge the support and love I got from Fiona and the boys during that time.

"However onto the person who, I would like to accept this award. They haven’t been in Rotary that long in comparison to most of our members, but during that time they quickly assumed a role that must've seemed like a busman's holiday from their normal workplace. The reports and guidance went “Above & Beyond”. A recent comment from one of the members eventually convinced me that this person was a fitting recipient of this shield. The quote was ‘I’ve commented before that the quality of your reports are exceptional in the clarity and supporting comment, very well done, thank you’ I would like to echo and re-iterate those last 2 comments.

This year's recipient of the President’s Prize is Janice Sinclair (pictured below).
