Rotarians of Kelvedon Hatch & Villages/ New Hall Vineyard
Visited on 24th July 2013 - 7pm
Organised by Alan Buckley, a group of 17 members & friends ventured beyond Danbury to Purleigh for an interesting evening gaining knowledge and imbibing local produce.
This vineyard has been producing Fine English Wines since 1969 using grape vines carefully selected from Europe for their suitability to the English climate. Each year about 400,000 bottles are produced in many varieties ranging from still white and light red to sparkling.
On our arrival we were shown a DVD about the vineyard and various processes throughout the year. One of the directors gave us a tour of the buildings including the cool store.
We tasted four different wines, awarding points for colour, taste, bouquet, appeal and overall score. All the samples were Medal winners, but our scores didn't always reflect this, showing how our personal tastes differ.
We were invited to own our own row in the vineyard at a fee; each row expected to produce about 220,000 bottles @
