Mini Show by Chelmsford Young Gen at The College

Thu, Dec 11th 2014 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

On Tuesday we had the privilege of hosting the DCM at Writtle. As far as I could tell, everything for which we were responsible went well, so thanks to all who helped and especially Leila for organising. There were a few glitches and Leila will be reporting on those in her debrief to District.

On Wednesday morning I, together with Chris and Malcolm, attended the Rivermead Champagne breakfast. Apart from the need to get up before 7 (it felt like being back at work) it was a pleasant morning; the main guest was the High Sherriff of Essex, who 'explained' the role of that office - and left me none the wiser! On behalf of the 5 (?) clubs I presented a cheque to the Mayor from proceeds of Mulled wine.
On Thursday we were able to welcome Valerie Jordan and 12 members from Wickford club as guests, so in total, close to the maximum of 40 were booked (although a few late withdrawals).

David said Grace, and later on, extracted the longest list of fines I can recall; claimed he was aiming to secure a record take from fines.

College maintained the usual good standard of food - although maybe the service was a little below par.
The only real announcement was about the Rivermead joint clubs breakfast planned for 21 Jan at ARU, for which I have attached details and booking arrangements. I will go and would be good to see few others there; Rivermead tend to be the Chelmsford club that gives us most support so need to keep that 'mutual'.
Bill collected funds and unsold xmas quiz sheets; if anyone has not yet given Bill money or returns please arrange to do so.

We had been anticipating attendance from members of Young Generation to entertain us after dinner; unfortunately they cried off on Wednesday afternoon, with what sounded like a limp explanation. As in the past, when this has occasionally happened, Richard rode bravely to the rescue and we had some fun playing game of spot the famous character.

Mary P won the raffle.

All in, a most enjoyable evening and certainly, the Wickford President remarked on how much they always enjoy coming to Phoenix.
