Social: Origins of Phrases - at the College

Thu, Mar 19th 2015 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am

With Rob at the District meeting Richard was at the helm. Unfortunately word had got out and apologies were in abundance. Still 14 members enjoyed an excellent meal with two colour soup to start, beef bourguignon as main and cream slice with raspberry coulis to finish. Grace was said by Peter.

The main event of the evening was origins of phrases organised by Jan Penn. Loosely based on a call my bluff format, three alternative explanations were read out by the panel (Jan Myself and Roger) for a particular phrase and teams had to decide which one was correct. It made for an enjoyable and informative evening, so well done Jan.

Fines were then dispensed by John Booth and the raffle was won by Bill.

On Friday two teams took part in the district quiz at the Marconi Club. It was probably the best one we had attended with a good mix of questions and a good mini marathon. With nearly forty teams taking part, Chelmsford B lead by John Booth came joint 4th only five points behind the winners Romford. A fantastic effort.

Summer sports are about to start. Roger is the lead on golf; John Johnson will be the lead on tennis, and Bill the lead on the Hugh Markham Trophy. So if you want to get involved in any of these contact the relevant person.
